Figurative Language In a Song

Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver

Almost heaven, West Virginia,

Blue ridge mountain, Shenandoah river,

Life is old there, older than the trees,

Younger than the mountains, flowing like a breeze

Country roads, take me home

To the place I belong,

West Virginia,

Mountain mamma,take me home

Country roads

All my memories, gather round her

Miner’s lady, stranger to blue water

Dark and dusty, painted on the sky

Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye

Country roads, take me home

To the place I belong,

West Virginia,

Mountain mamma, take me home

country roads

What else could better represent this song than a picture of the mountains of West Virginia? John Denver’s central message of this song is to simply convey his love and appreciation of the state of West Virginia. He grew up there and has created all of his memories there.  So there can’t truly be anything else that successfully conveys the message of this song.
